Sugar cookies

end September 2021 in Lyon with Maman, practicing my cookie decorating skills – half of this based on one egg yolk made about 20 cookies, also it’s not a particularly tasteful recipe really, sugar cookies are a bit plain

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (113 g) butter, softened
  • 3/4 cups + 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp almond extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Recipe

  • Beat butter and sugar until creamy. In a large bowl, mix together butter and sugar. Beat until creamy. Add in eggs, vanilla, lemon extract and sour cream and mix together until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Slowly add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix just until combined.
  • Split dough in two and place in saran wrap. Refrigerate dough for 1-2 hours.
  • Once dough has chilled, preheat oven to 350°. 
  • Roll out dough on a baker’s mat or parchment paper. Add another 1/4 – 1/2 cup flour if dough is still sticky. Cut with floured cookie cutter.
  • Bake for 8-9 minutes, until edges are slightly golden. 
  1. Beat butter and sugar until creamy.
  2. Add eggs, vanilla, almond and sour cream. Mix.
  3. Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt. Mix.
  4. Wrap dough in cling film. Fridge for 1-2 hours.
  5. Oven: 350 °F = 180 °C.
  6. Roll out dough, cut forms with cookie cutter.
  7. Bake for 8-9 minutes.
