end September 2021 in Lyon with Maman, practicing my cookie decorating skills – half of this based on one egg yolk made about 20 cookies, also it’s not a particularly tasteful recipe really, sugar cookies are a bit plain

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (113 g) butter, softened
- 3/4 cups + 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 egg, room temperature
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1/8 tsp almond extract
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 3/4 cups flour
- 3/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
Recipe
- Beat butter and sugar until creamy. In a large bowl, mix together butter and sugar. Beat until creamy. Add in eggs, vanilla, lemon extract and sour cream and mix together until combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Slowly add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix just until combined.
- Split dough in two and place in saran wrap. Refrigerate dough for 1-2 hours.
- Once dough has chilled, preheat oven to 350°.
- Roll out dough on a baker’s mat or parchment paper. Add another 1/4 – 1/2 cup flour if dough is still sticky. Cut with floured cookie cutter.
- Bake for 8-9 minutes, until edges are slightly golden.
- Beat butter and sugar until creamy.
- Add eggs, vanilla, almond and sour cream. Mix.
- Add flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt. Mix.
- Wrap dough in cling film. Fridge for 1-2 hours.
- Oven: 350 °F = 180 °C.
- Roll out dough, cut forms with cookie cutter.
- Bake for 8-9 minutes.
