15 tortillas
Experience
- 10/2024: made with 6 tbsp butter instead of shortening, had to add a bit more flour because butter contains more water than shortening. It was soooo tasty, it made about 20 small tortillas. Freezes very well.
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 to 6 tbsp shortening
- 1 1/4 cups water, warm
Recipe
- Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together.
- Cut in the shortening (until the dough holds a form when squeezed in the hands).
- Add the water all at once and mix the dough quickly with a fork or by hand.
- Knead about 12 times until soft and not sticky.
- Cover, rest for 10 minutes.
- Pinch off 1-inch diameter balls. Knead into a tight ball. Rest 10 minutes.
- Roll out on floured surface.
- Heat a pan (450 °F = 230 °C). Cook each side until it puffs (30 seconds)
