Ingredients
- 5 cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp + 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp (140 g) butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg white (for wash)
Recipe
- Oven: 450 °F = 230 °C.
- Mix dry ingredients. Cut butter into flour mixture.
- In a separate bowl, mix: eggs, buttermilk, vanilla. Add to dry ingredients and mix (not with hands) until nearly combined. Knead 15 turns.
- Roll dough to 1 inch thickness. Cut out scones with cookie cutter. Place on baking sheets.
- Brush with egg white.
- Bake for 12 minutes.
