Scones (not foolproof)

Ingredients

  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp + 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp (140 g) butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg white (for wash)

Recipe

  1. Oven: 450 °F = 230 °C.
  2. Mix dry ingredients. Cut butter into flour mixture.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix: eggs, buttermilk, vanilla. Add to dry ingredients and mix (not with hands) until nearly combined. Knead 15 turns.
  4. Roll dough to 1 inch thickness. Cut out scones with cookie cutter. Place on baking sheets.
  5. Brush with egg white.
  6. Bake for 12 minutes.
