Potato gratin

8 servings (not, really not)

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds (900 g) potatoes , thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup (56 g) butter
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp salt (more. this takes a lot of salt to be flavorful)
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 cups cheddar (divided)

Recipe

  1. Oven: 350 °F = 175 °C.
  2. Thinly slice potatoes. Mince garlic. Grate cheddar.
  3. Butter a dish. Line half potatoes on the bottom of the pan.
  4. Melt the butter in pot (medium-heat). Add garlic. Then whisk in flour, salt and pepper.
  5. Slowly add in milk, whisking all the time. Simmer until thickened. Stir in 3/4 cup cheese, melt.
  6. Pour half of the sauce over the potatoes. Sprinkle 1/2 cup cheese over top. Add remaining potatoes over top. Add remaining sauce and cheese over top.
  7. Bake 50-60 min.
