Ingredients
- 2 pounds (900 g) potatoes , thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup (56 g) butter
- 1 1/2 tsp garlic
- 3 tbsp flour
- 1 tsp salt (more. this takes a lot of salt to be flavorful)
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 2 cups cheddar (divided)
Recipe
- Oven: 350 °F = 175 °C.
- Thinly slice potatoes. Mince garlic. Grate cheddar.
- Butter a dish. Line half potatoes on the bottom of the pan.
- Melt the butter in pot (medium-heat). Add garlic. Then whisk in flour, salt and pepper.
- Slowly add in milk, whisking all the time. Simmer until thickened. Stir in 3/4 cup cheese, melt.
- Pour half of the sauce over the potatoes. Sprinkle 1/2 cup cheese over top. Add remaining potatoes over top. Add remaining sauce and cheese over top.
- Bake 50-60 min.
